Apple may introduce design changes to the AirPods lineup in 2024

In 2024, significant changes may be on the horizon for Apple's AirPods lineup, according to insights from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Gurman suggests that the AirPods might undergo a design overhaul, and Apple could potentially introduce two new models during the year. While Apple's customary secrecy still veils specific details, Gurman provides a glimpse into potential developments.

The forthcoming AirPods, tentatively labeled as the "fourth generation," may be offered in two variants, presenting alternatives to the existing AirPods 2 and AirPods 3. Gurman hints at a possible amalgamation of design elements from both the AirPods Pro and standard AirPods, suggesting a departure from the familiar stem design. Additionally, the two new AirPods models could vary in features, with the lower-priced variant likely omitting active noise cancellation, a feature reserved for the higher-priced model and the AirPods Pro.

Anticipated changes extend to the charging case, which might not undergo a design overhaul but could welcome the adoption of the widely used USB-C port, replacing the proprietary Lightning connector. This shift aligns with industry standardization and simplifies charging by eliminating the need for different cables. The charging case is also expected to integrate support for Apple's Find My app, facilitating the location of misplaced AirPods.

Furthermore, there are expectations that Apple will enhance AirPods functionality by incorporating hearing aid features, although this may be introduced through a software update. While Gurman's insights are typically accurate, they are rooted in leaks and informed speculation, urging a degree of skepticism. The final design and features of the AirPods may differ significantly, but the potential for a redesigned AirPods experience, featuring improved audio, health tracking, and a USB-C port, remains a compelling possibility.
