Apple is once again speculated to unveil new products, this time focusing on iPad Pro and iPad Air models. Following the recent launch of new MacBook Air models, reports suggest that Apple might introduce M3 chipset-powered iPad Pro models and M2-powered iPad Air models by late March or early April. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reiterated this information, stating that revamped iPad Pros, new iPad Airs, a refreshed Magic Keyboard, and an upgraded Apple Pencil could be unveiled around that time frame, coinciding with the release of iPadOS 17.4 software. These new devices are rumored to feature significant upgrades, including new OLED displays, slimmer bodies, revamped camera modules, MagSafe wireless charging support, and landscape-oriented front cameras. Additionally, a larger trackpad for the Magic Keyboard and a new feature for AirPods Pro, termed as 'hearing aid mode,' are expected later this year with the iOS 18 update.

Apple may introduce design changes to the AirPods lineup in 2024
In 2024, significant changes may be on the horizon for Apple's AirPods lineup, according to insights from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Gurman suggests that the AirPods might undergo a design overhaul, and Apple could potentially introduce two new models during the year. While Apple's customary secrecy still veils specific details, Gurman provides a glimpse into potential developments.
The forthcoming AirPods, tentatively labeled as the "fourth generation," may be offered in two variants, presenting alternatives to the existing AirPods 2 and AirPods 3. Gurman hints at a possible amalgamation of design elements from both the AirPods Pro and standard AirPods, suggesting a departure from the familiar stem design. Additionally, the two new AirPods models could vary in features, with the lower-priced variant likely omitting active noise cancellation, a feature reserved for the higher-priced model and the AirPods Pro.

iOS 17.2 Update Features
On Monday, December 11, Apple rolled out the iOS 17.2 update as the latest operating system version for the iPhone, encompassing security fixes, patches, improvements, and new features. Among the highlights, the update introduces the much-anticipated Journal app to the iPhone, focused on health and wellness, allowing users to record daily activities and thoughts. This app, announced at Apple's WWDC event in June, features options to secure the Journal with Touch ID or Face ID, scheduled notifications, filters for bookmarked entries, and iCloud syncing. Additionally, the iOS 17.2 update enables Spatial Video capture on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which can be viewed in 3D using Apple's Vision Pro mixed reality headset.
The update also enhances the iPhone 15 Pro's Action Button with new functions, introduces a new Weather widget, AirDrop improvements, and enhancements to the Messages app. Qi2 wireless charging support is extended to the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 series. Notably, the AirPlay in hotels feature and the Apple Music collaborative playlists have been delayed and are now expected in 2024. Apple released iOS 17.2, alongside updates for iPadOS 17.2, macOS 14.2 Sonoma, and watchOS 10.2, following several weeks of testing. Siri in iOS 17.2 gains the ability to access data from the Health app using voice commands. Other features include Enhanced AutoFill, keyboard layout support for eight Saimi languages, Sensitive Content Warning for stickers in Messages, and a translate function for the Action button on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
To download the update, users can go to Settings > General > Software Update, following the instructions. It is advisable to connect the iPhone to a power source until the update installation is complete. However, it's worth noting that the Apple Music collaborative playlists and AirPlay in hotel rooms features, initially present in beta versions, are not available in the final iOS 17.2 version and have been postponed to 2024, as confirmed by Apple.
Apple restricts Beeper Mini's iMessage service due to security concerns
Beeper Mini, the newly introduced Android app offering access to Apple's iMessage service for a monthly fee, faced an outage shortly after its release. The app, created by former Pebble Co-Founder Eric Migicovsky, encountered a setback when Apple confirmed blocking its service, citing privacy and security concerns. Despite Apple's claims of Beeper Mini exploiting "fake credentials," Beeper asserts the safety of its service and is actively working to restore the app. Users experienced issues such as "failed to lookup on server: lookup request timed out" messages. Beeper acknowledged the problem and assured users of ongoing efforts to rectify the situation. Apple defended its actions, emphasizing the significant risks posed to user security and privacy by Beeper's techniques. Beeper Mini contends that its messaging service provides end-to-end encryption and enhances security compared to unencrypted SMS. The company expressed a willingness to share its source code for security evaluation with mutually agreed-upon third parties. Founder Eric Migicovsky questioned Apple's commitment to user privacy, asking why they would block a service enabling encrypted messages between iPhone and Android users. Beeper is optimistic about resolving the issues and promised to share positive updates with users soon. The service, priced at $1.99 per month, aimed to facilitate communication between Android and iOS users via iMessage.

Apple is planning to launch new iPads and MacBooks
Apple is gearing up to introduce a range of new models and enhancements for its Mac and iPad lineup, aiming to reverse the decline in sales within this category. Despite contributing nearly 15% to Apple's revenue, a downturn in consumer tech spending and a dearth of fresh Apple offerings have impacted the Mac and iPad sector. According to a report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is slated to revamp its iPad Air, iPad Pro, and MacBook Air series, with the anticipated launch scheduled for March 2024. The report highlights that alongside the new iPad series, Apple plans to unveil iPadOS 17.4 during the March launch event, while the macOS 14.3 update is expected to roll out in January or February.
Apple's strategy includes the introduction of a 12.9-inch iPad Air model, aligning the size of the new tablet with that of the iPad Pro. This move could potentially result in four models, codenamed J507, J508, J537, and J538, available in both wifi and cellular versions. Currently featuring a 10.9-inch display, the larger display on the new tablets is part of Apple's effort to provide diverse options at various price points, mirroring its approach with the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro series, as highlighted by Gurman. Additionally, reports indicate Apple's intention to launch four new iPad Pro models, spanning screen sizes from 11 inches to 13 inches, under the codenames J717, J718, J720, and J721. This marks the first comprehensive overhaul of the iPad Pro range since 2018, with the potential pricing reaching up to $2,000. Gurman notes that the new iPad Pro models will feature OLED screens, employing the same display technology used in iPhones since 2017. Furthermore, these iPad Pro models are expected to incorporate the M3 chipset introduced with the MacBook Pro in October of the current year.

Apple fixes 2 security vulnerabilities on iPhone, iPad & Mac
In response to two critical security flaws, Apple promptly took action by releasing security updates. These vulnerabilities impacted iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices and represented severe weaknesses in software that hackers exploited before the software creators were aware of them. The specific bugs were identified in WebKit, a web browser engine used in Apple's devices, allowing attackers to gain access to sensitive information and execute harmful code on vulnerable devices by deceiving users into visiting malicious websites.
To address these security concerns, Apple issued emergency updates for devices running iOS 17.1.2, iPadOS 17.1.2, macOS Sonoma 14.1.2, and Safari 17.1.2. These updates incorporated enhancements to how the software verifies and secures data input, with the aim of preventing the exploitation of these vulnerabilities.
Clément Lecigne, a security researcher from Google's Threat Analysis Group (TAG), discovered and reported these zero-day vulnerabilities. While Apple has not confirmed any ongoing attacks exploiting these flaws, Google TAG researchers have a track record of uncovering and disclosing zero-day vulnerabilities used in targeted attacks, particularly against high-profile individuals like journalists and politicians. Apple's swift response is part of an ongoing effort, collaborating with security researchers, to safeguard devices and proactively prevent potential threats from compromising user data and privacy.
