Speculation surrounds the potential release of the Nothing Phone 2a, believed to be the upcoming smartphone offering from the UK-based OEM, although the company has yet to officially confirm the phone or its moniker. With the emergence of details about a third Nothing Phone online, in alignment with the product cycle of Nothing and leaked information, it is presumed to be the Nothing Phone 2a—a more affordable, stripped-down variant of the Nothing Phone 2. A leak of a Production Validation Test (PVT) unit has provided insights into the purported design and some key specifications of the phone, along with hints about its launch timeline and anticipated price.
Tipster Yogesh Brar (@heyitsyogesh) shared potential specifications of the rumored Nothing Phone 2a on X (formerly Twitter), suggesting that it will be unveiled at the 2024 Mobile World Congress in February and priced at $400 (approximately Rs. 33,200). The leaked images of the PVT unit reveal a redesigned back panel, showcasing a centred hole-punch display on the front and a horizontal camera module centrally positioned towards the top—a departure from the design seen in other Nothing handsets.
According to the tipster, the Nothing Phone 2a is expected to feature a redesigned Glyph Interface, offering similar Glyph controls as the Nothing Phone 2. Another tipster hinted at the handset carrying 3 Glyph parts. The leaked images and information also suggest that the Nothing Phone 2a may boast a 120Hz OLED panel and be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 SoC paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. It could run on Android 14-based Nothing OS 2.5 and sport a 50-megapixel dual rear camera system. Despite these details, caution is advised, as the leaked image's About page inaccurately lists the phone's battery capacity as 1,000mAh, which is notably smaller than what even entry-level smartphones typically have.
