Google has introduced a novel feature called Direct My Call, exclusively accessible on Pixel smartphones, designed to enhance the customer call experience. This feature empowers users to easily navigate through automated menu options during phone calls by displaying the automated voice prompts and menu choices on the Pixel’s screen. Users can simply tap on the desired option to progress through the call. Direct My Call is compatible with business phone numbers lacking a toll-free prefix. However, it's important to note that this feature is currently available only in English and is limited to Pixel 3a and newer devices in the United States, as well as Pixel 6 and newer devices in the UK.
To activate Direct My Call on a Pixel smartphone, users need to follow a few straightforward steps. First, open the Phone app, then click on the three dots in the upper right corner to access the More menu. From there, select Settings and choose the Direct My Call option, ensuring that the toggle switch is set to the “on” position. For users with Pixel 3a or newer devices, an additional option to enable “faster menu options” is available, displaying the automated system’s menu options on the screen before they are played audibly.
Once Direct My Call is activated, when a call is made to a supported service number with an automated voice system, the Pixel phone will display the voice prompts and available options. Users can interact with the screen by touching the desired option or utilizing the numerical menu at the bottom of the screen. To discontinue using Direct My Call during a call, users can simply tap on the Close button (X) located in the top left corner of the screen.
The introduction of Direct My Call by Google aims to address common frustrations associated with customer care calls. With this feature, Pixel users can enjoy a more efficient and seamless call experience, navigating through menu options with ease and minimizing wait times. While currently limited in availability, there is an expectation that Google will expand this feature to additional devices and countries in the future.
